Most oil spills are not due to drilling but from natural seepage from the sea floor, and studies have shown that oil drilling reduces the pressure on those seeps and results in less oil pollution.

This is all about a natural, non-toxic trace gas that in total makes up only 0.0004 of the atmosphere. And about 97% of that tiny amount comes from natural sources including oceans, forests, and the biosphere that have little or nothing to do with human activity.
